Martin was born in Amsterdam in 1957 and is a marketing communication lecturer at Fontys University in the Netherlands. He is an avid fly fisherman and fly tier, who loves to fish for trout, sea trout and grayling. Martin started tying in the ’80s, won prizes at some fly tying competitions, and started to tie at shows and demos. Meanwhile he has been a regular tier at shows in Britain, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Holland. Martin also tied in the USA, Italy and Sweden. He gives fly tying classes and demonstrations at clubs and fly shops, both in Holland and abroad. Flies of Martin appeared in books, such as the Leeson/Schollmeyer book Tying Emergers, and Takahashi’s Modern Midges. A selection of Martin’s flies is part of the Master’s Collection of the Catskills Fly Fishing Museum in the USA.
